Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock a PDF without the password?
No. Unlock PDF only works when you know the current password. It doesn't guess or bypass passwords, so if you don't have it, ask the person who sent you the document.
What does unlocking remove?
Unlock PDF creates a new copy of the PDF with the encryption removed. The result opens without a password, and any printing or editing restrictions that came with the password are removed too. The pages and content stay the same.
Why does it say my password is wrong?
Unlock PDF compares the password exactly, including upper and lower case and spaces. Check Caps Lock and your keyboard language, and if you pasted the password, make sure no extra spaces came along at the start or end. Passwords of 4 to 128 characters can be entered.
Is it free?
Yes. Use it free in your web browser, with no sign-up or software to install.
Are my files stored on a server?
No. This tool runs inside your browser, so your file is never sent to a server and never leaves your device.
Which files can I use?
You can add one PDF file at a time.
