Frequently asked questions

How do I change the order of the files?

Merge PDF combines the files in the order they appear in the list. Drag a file to a new spot (on a phone, drag the grip handle on the left) or use the Move up and Move down buttons. You can rearrange them as often as you like before you click Merge PDF.

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

Merge PDF needs at least two files and has no fixed maximum. Because the merge runs in your browser, how much it can handle at once depends on your device's memory. If you have a very large number of files or very large files, merge them in a few batches and then merge the results.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

No. Merge PDF can't read a PDF that is protected with a password, so it shows an error for that file. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then add the unlocked file to the list. If the merged file needs a password again, add one afterwards with Protect PDF.

Is it free?

Yes. Use it free in your web browser, with no sign-up or software to install.

Are my files stored on a server?

No. This tool runs inside your browser, so your file is never sent to a server and never leaves your device.

Which files can I use?

You can add several PDF files at once.

How long does it take?

In our test in Chrome on a 2021 MacBook Pro (M1 Pro), merging 10 PDFs of 20 pages each (9 MB in all) took about 0.2 seconds (the middle of three runs). The work happens on your own device, so older or slower devices take longer.
