Which compression level should I choose?
For most files, Compress PDF's Recommended level gives a good balance between quality and size. Choose Light if the document will be printed and you want to keep more detail, or Maximum when the smallest possible file matters most, for example for an email attachment. With Maximum, images can look noticeably softer.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
Compress PDF never gives you a bigger file: if the compressed version isn't smaller than the original, you get the original back. Files that are already optimized, or that contain mostly text and few images, have little left to shrink. For an image-heavy document, try the Maximum level.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Compress PDF can't process a PDF that needs a password to open, and it shows an error instead. Remove the password with Unlock PDF, compress the unlocked file, and then add the password back with Protect PDF if you need it. Compress PDF runs on our server and deletes your file right after processing; the password tools run in your browser.
